Linko LabSync User GuideLinko LabSync User Guide\Before Using LabSync

LabSync is an add-on module to the LinkoCTS+ Pretreatment Software which facilitates automated electronic transfer of pretreatment monitoring samples and results data from a persistent data source (usually a database view with reportable data from LIMS) into the LinkoCTS+ database.  There are very detailed and specific implementation requirements that must be completed prior to LabSync becoming operational.

LabSync eliminates the manual data entry of the laboratory results it imports. Users will still be required to process the data for compliance review, enforcement and reporting.

LabSync, optionally, includes email notifications that can be issued based on the transfer status of analytical results or the daily compliance status of the analytical results. Email notification also requires specific implementation requirement before activation.

Once activated, LabSync is typically scheduled by the SQL Server Administrator to run on a nightly basis – transfers and notifications will happen automatically at this time.   The LabSync user interface, allows for configuration, review of samples and results presented for transfer, transfer status, reporting and the ability to perform a synchronization of the data on demand.

Terminology

  1. Samples - a Grab or Composite representative sampling of the IU effluent, collected at a monitoring point (outfall).  Samples in CTS have a start date / time and a stop date / time.

  1. Result - a single parameter's concentration associated with a unique sample.

  1. Database View – analytical data source from a lab's LIMS or other system.  A database view represents a snapshot of data presented to LabSync for read only purposes. Typically, the view of data will include analytical results for the last 90-180 days that should be considered for transfer to LinkoCTS.  The view will include naming conventions lab's monitoring locations, sample identification, reportable status, sample date and analysis date. The view will contain a row for each parameter analyzed. One sample might have several rows of parameter results (e.g. BOD, TSS, COD, etc.).

  1. Translation - Often times the data source uses slightly different parameter names or different methods or different units than are used in CTS.  LabSync provides a utility to permanently map for names, methods and units that are different and then allows users to specify the translation name, method and units.

  1. Transfer Status – LabSync uses four transfer statuses: pending, failed, reported, transferred.  Based on the content provided by the LIMS in the database view, samples and results may be considered ready for transfer to LinkoCTS based on location, date or status (e.g. entered, complete, analyzed, approved, reportable etc.).  LabSync may be configured to review data based on LIMS status and send email notifications, prior  to the data being fully available for transfer into LinkoCTS.  Details of each status are provided below.
