Before Using LinkoPipe

LinkoPipe is an add-on module to the LinkoCTS+ Pretreatment Software which facilitates electronic transfer of pretreatment monitoring samples and results data from a data source (usually a LIMS) into the LinkoCTS+ database.  There are very detailed and specific requirements for the format of the data to be imported (see Appendix A for the data import specification).

LinkoPipe eliminates some of the manual data entry but will require that the user enter data specific to pretreatment - such as assigning outfalls, sample ending date, type of sample, etc.

As with most tasks in life, importing data can be very fast and effective - IF - you consider and plan the import before you perform the import.

Terminology

  1. Samples - a Grab or Composite representative sampling of the IU effluent, collected at a monitoring point (outfall).  Samples in CTS have a start date / time and a stop date / time.

  1. Result - a single parameter's concentration associated with a unique sample.

  1. Dataset - data file from a lab's LIMS or other source.  Naming conventions contain the lab's nickname / acronym then the two-digit year, two-digit month and two-digit day (e.g. TRA000101.CSV).  If multiple datasets are produced on the same date, then append a letter (e.g. TRA000101a.CSV, TRA000101b.CSV, etc.).  The dataset file contains a row for each parameter. One sample might have several rows of parameter results (e.g. BOD, TSS, COD, etc.).

  1. Translation - Often times the data source uses slightly different parameter names or different methods or different units than are used in CTS.  LinkoPipe checks for names, methods and units that are different then allows you to specify the translation name, method and units.  On import the source names are changed into the translation names.
